Besides the darkened windows and quieted streets, Anna always knew when the night had bent from late to late by the volume of the clock. The incessent tick of seconds passing grew far more noticeable as the night slipped by. You are running out of time to sleep, it warned. The tick grew louder. Anna remained awake.
I just noticed that I use two plurals for ‘fic.’
‘Fic will be written no matter what.’
and
‘There’s a few good fics for that ship, but good luck finding them.’
i love being tight with teachers because you get to hear them talk shit about other teachers its so funny they all act like highschoolers except they get paid
They talk shit about other students if they like you enough too.
The saddest realization after leaving high school is that you never actually leave high school.
Please reblog, I think this will work.
This idea was taken. For every note this post gets, I won’t cut for a day. I’ll put every url that reblogged this into a jar. If I feel like cutting, I’ll randomly pull out any url from the jar, I won’t cut, but I’ll message you and thank you.
Please this might help me stop relapsing..
People keep talking about coaching re: #Blackhawks power play. As I wrote yesterday, how much coaching needed to know you have to shoot?

You know, a few months ago this dude friend of mine showed up to hang out with me all dejected. Over a couple of drinks he explained his long face — earlier that night, he’d been walking down the street behind this really cute girl, and when she looked back at him over her shoulder,…
Crosby on why he pushed Voracek’s glove: I don’t like him.
Reporter: Why?
Crosby: Because I don’t like him. I don’t like any guy on their team. …..
…. What did you want me to do, pick it up and hand it to him?

i love you, you sassy bitch.
My roommate who, for as long as I have discussed hockey, has made fun of Crosby and disliked him, has just declared, “I love Sidney Crosby. He’s my favorite now;” thanks to this gif and quote.
when you’re reading fanfiction and its pretty good and then out of nowhere theres some shit like ‘their tongues battled like israel and palestine fighting over the same sacred ground’
I am choosing to believe that the Hawks suck at power plays because they believe the player difference is unfair and prefer to play evenly. Everytime they score on a powerplay they feel a deep sense of shame for taking advantage of their opponent like that—even if they agree with the other player being put in time out. Because there are rules and they are important.
So. The hockey story.
So, the idea is, Portland gets an NHL hockey team. Why Portland? Because they have an arena large enough to host a team and they had a team once upon a time. Handwave why Bettman lets this happen.
Anyway, Portland gets a team. There’s no expansion draft, but they do get the number 2 draft pick (there was a coin toss basically; they lost). They also recruit from the Portland Pirates (AHL—Coyotes’ team, but Portland gets them now) and the various free agents.
They’re the Portland Rosebuds, because that is what their original team was called. They even resurrect the old logo.

This is actually part of a writing project—one that I am reluctantly admitting to working on. If anything, it is a distraction from still unresolved Eliot-Tessa-David story and ever-plotless A&B story. Maybe if I keep adding to my list of writing, I’ll finally finish something. Heh.
I realized late this past week that I’ve not been asked about my accent in a while and I wondered whether it was because I finally sounded like I belong, or because I live in a place diverse enough in sounds that no one thinks to ask anymore. Probably the latter.
(I was born and raised in the Midwest. I do not have an accent. I’ve only asked/teased about it since elementary school).

And then people urge me everything is fine, of course it is, when you’re ignoring statistics that is.

Fun fact: SAT tests predict college performance pretty well for men, but they strongly underpredict college performance for women. http://spp.sagepub.com/content/early/2012/12/20/1948550612469038.abstract

Reblogging again because it pisses me off.

As to Holmes, I observed that he sat frequently for half an hour on end, with knitted brows and an abstracted air, but he swept the matter away with a wave of his hand when I mentioned it. “Data! data! data!” he cried impatiently. “I can’t make bricks without clay.” And yet he would always wind up by muttering that no sister of his should ever have accepted such a situation.
That excerpt above is from Copper Beeches, my favorite Holmes story. I like that bit above because it shows that Holmes is concerned with both the problem and the person.
No sister of his should ever have accepted such a situation.

Staff WriterAs I am writing this story, I am sitting with tears in my eyes. British national treasure Stephen Fry has admitted that he tried to commit suicide last year and was only saved as a result of his producer finding his unconscious body.
Fry, 55, who has a history of depression having been diagnosed with bipolar in 1995, spoke of his suicide attempt in an interview with British comic Richard Herring that is to be released via podcast tomorrow (6 June). The broadcaster and actor admitted he was overseas when he attempted to take his own life by taking a large quantity of pills and vodka. He fell unconscious however the mixture made him start convulsing which caused Fry to break four ribs in the process. He was found by the producer of the programme he was making who had dropped in to see the star and he called for help thereby saving Fry.
Good morning!

We’ve already received some fantastic works and I really can’t wait to share them all with you.
Also!! Do you have an idea for a theme you’d like to see for a future issue of Plunge? Email me, send in an ask, or comment here to share your ideas. The theme for the February 2014 issue will be announced on the 12th (Note: Starting in 2014, Plunge will publish more frequently. While the initial plan was quarterly, we may shift more slowly and start with trimesters. Please let me know what you think). Are you ready?

This song is perfect for some interpretations of a ship I’ve been reading over the past couple days.
Drank too much in an old box car,
Stumbling out with a loaded heart.
Maybe I’ll try and turn you on,
With a bottle of jack and a country song,
Truth is this, I ain’t done,
Nobody else gonna spoil my fun…
Maybe I rolled the dice to long,
Maybe I got this wrong,
And now the money is gone….
Ohhh, maybe I’ll let you down,
Ohhh, and then I’ll come back around,
You gotta start with something,
Maybe it turns to nothing,
Ohhh, MAYBE MY TIME IS COMING…
I’m an UN-extraordinary man,
With an UN-extraordinary plan,
Gonna dig my heard outta the sand,
Cos I’m an UN-extraordinary man…
Fanfic is fun, but it is also another way to break down the various facets of a character or plot and examine them in greater depth. It is, in some ways, to the source material what satire is to culture, current events, and policy. Fanfic introduces a new angle. Good fic still requires careful thought about the characters and canon, while bad fic can, by showing what doesn’t work, highlight what is essential. Fanfic provides both entertainment and insight.

It would appear that the #Penguins have goaltending issues. And goalscoring issues as well. They need a goalie that can score! #TheEndIsNear

She isn’t bitter/cynical. She’s angry, but she represses it because that is what she learned over her time caught in faerie. She’s furious with what her life has become and she wants to strike back. She should be in Summer, but Autumn offered someone stronger to follow and she is a follower (even though she doesn’t like to think of herself that way). She’s quiet, watchful, and simmering.
